Iñaki Aurrekoetxea Aurre

Born in Zamudio in 1953, he graduated as an architect from the Donostia School of Architecture at the ETSA in Barcelona in 1979, having completed most of his studies at the Madrid School.

He developed his professional activity combining the public and private sectors, having advised the Town Councils of Busturia and Zeberio, and working in the Territorial Delegation of Urban Planning, Housing and Environment of the Basque Government as head of private initiative VPO of Bizkaia, later Head of the Department's Land Management Service, and finally reaching the post of Director General of Housing and Architecture of the Department of Territorial Planning, Housing and Environment of the Basque Government.

He founded his first office in 1988, where Iñigo Viar and Josu Aurrekoetxea (+) also collaborated, to create I.Aurrekoetxea eta Bazkideak in 1997, where he successfully developed a professional career that made him a direct participant in the urban transformation of Bilbao, also collaborating with internationally renowned architects and designers such as Arata Isozaki, David Chipperfield, MVRDV, Jean Nouvel, Robert Krier, Marc Breitman and Philippe Stark.
