Lauren Etxepare Igiñiz

(Irun, 1972)

He studied at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of the Basque Country, completed in 2000. In 2002 he began teaching at the same school, teaching construction subjects. In 2008 he finished his doctoral studies at the same university. He has been an Associate Professor since 2012 and was Director of the Department of Architecture (2010-2015). He currently teaches in the Degree in Fundamentals of Architecture and in two master's degrees: Master in Architecture and Master in Rehabilitation, Restoration and Management of Heritage and Built Buildings, being also thesis director in the Doctoral program associated with the latter. He has researched on the construction systems: the construction and deterioration of the houses of the San Sebastian extension, the systems used by Marcel Breuer and his members to build the ZUP neighborhood of Baiona, and how the houses of the twentieth century were built.  In any case, a second line of research is the history of twentieth-century architecture, in which Luis Vallet de Montano (1894-1982) published. The margins and limits of architecture (published in 2015 by the Basque-NavarreSe College of Architects together with Fernando García Nieto). This second line corresponds to the research on Joseph Hiriart. The author, who spent a sabbatical semester getting to know Hiriarte's work in Tunis, was in February 2019 in Tunisia examining houses first-hand and tracking archives.
