Workshops

ARANTZAN…ZU?

The aim of the workshop for adults "ARANTZAN...ZU?" is to seek the essential relationship between architecture, sculpture and pictorial work as building features of the Basilica of Arantzazu. Spotlighting the architects Luis Laorga and Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza, we will discuss the technical complexities the architects came up against, existing features and the bottomless ravine beside the Basilica.

The workshop will be run in two parts, and the end result will be an interpretative model of the Basilica of Arantzazu at 1/50 scale.

In the first, three working areas will be organised: architecture, sculpture and painting, which will deal with the construction issues arising in each of these fields. The primary goals of this first part will be to raise awareness of the work and the processes involved in building the church, as well as the coordination of all of them to actually construct it.

In the second part of the workshop, those taking part will work together to put together the pieces - sculpture, architecture and pictures - as if it were a jigsaw puzzle.

Organizer: Maushaus and COAVN Gipuzkoa
