Mugak/ ends its third edition with record attendance and consolidates its position as an architectural event in the Basque Country

The Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country has closed its third edition with record attendance. Around 70,000 people have enjoyed the exhibitions, conferences, workshops, congresses and other activities that have taken place this year not only in Donostia, but also in Vitoria and Bilbao, compared to the 45,000 of the previous edition. Thus, this third Mugak/ Biennial has established itself as an architectural event throughout the Basque Country, making its presence felt throughout the territory for the first time.

Carme Pinós, Architecture National Award 2021

Carme Pinós has won the 2021 National Architecture Prize after having starred in this year's Mugak/ Biennial with its main exhibition, 'Estudio Carme Pinós - Context and concepts'. This Friday, December 10, the Presidency of the Government announced that Pinós is the winner of this award, promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

The Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country has today closed its third edition. On 27 October, under the slogan 'Heritage and Modernity', it began with the architect Carme Pinós as the protagonist. After a month of architecture throughout the three capitals of the Basque Country, today, 30 November, Pinós herself has returned to put the final touch to this edition.

The Galernak festival awards students from the UPV/EHU's School of Architecture for their short films

Short films made by students at the UPV/EHU's School of Architecture won the three prizes at the Galernak Atlantic Architecture Film Festival today, Friday. The event, which held its first edition from 23 to 26 November as part of the Mugak/ Biennial, today awarded the prizes to a total of eight short films selected from various European countries.

Next week the Euskal Hiria congress will mark the keys to where the future of Basque cities is heading

The future of the Basque Country is outlined in forums such as Euskal Hiria. This congress turns 20 years old and this time its focused on how to “achieve a green socio-economic recovery”. With a program entitled ‘Intervention in the city as an instrument to achieve a healthier territory’, it is organized by the Department of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport of the Basque Government in collaboration with UN-Habitat. It will be held for two days, on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30, at the Europa Palace in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The congress can be followed in person and online.

The Basque Institute of Architecture becomes a cinema this week

Architecture and film come together again at the Basque Institute of Architecture. It will take place this week as part of the Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country, with an exhibition, a new short film competition called Galernak and several conferences. In the organisation of the programme, both the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the UPV/EHU and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola have taken part, as well as the San Sebastian Festival, which is collaborating in the Biennial for the first time.

The pioneers of design furniture in the Basque Country are the stars of an exhibition and a documentary in the Plaza del Machete in Vitoria.

In the 70s and 80s, there were a number of people who were committed to design in order to create an industry that did not exist in the Basque Country: furniture and design products for furnishing spaces. Now, the Habic cluster is paying tribute to them with the project 'Artisans of Design', which was presented today in Vitoria-Gasteiz as part of the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/. Consisting of a travelling exhibition and a documentary on those humble origins, it landed this morning in the Plaza del Machete, where it will remain until next Tuesday after visiting Bilbao and before moving on to Donostia.

Vitoria dedicates an exhibition to 30 developments that summarise the housing policy in the Basque Country since the transition to democracy

Housing and architecture are intimately linked. The  Basque Country International Biennial of Architecture Mugak/ presented today the exhibition 'Housing the Basque Country', which reviews the housing policy in the Basque Country since the Transition. To illustrate it, 30 buildings representing some of the best examples of what has been built over the last 40 years are on display, ten for each historical territory.
