Manuel I. Galíndez, architect

Manuel I. Galíndez was an outstandingly coherent architect. His coherency becomes evident in the composition of his works.

In all his work, the quality of construction and design, the care and precision of each of the details are exceptional in Basque architecture, placing him among the best European architects of his time. Another outstanding feature of his architecture is his sensitiveness to the built environment. The elegant and careful way in which his buildings are related to the surrounding city, creating urban spaces of quality contrasts with the attitude of many of his contemporaries. Studying the work of Galíndez is relevant nowadays, in the context of today’s urban design debate, which is developing beyond the criteria of 20th century urbanism.

This exhibition presents those of his urban buildings of highest quality, most sensitive to the surrounding city, showing a refined language and clear composition. These are, in our point of view, Galíndez’ main contribution to architectural history.

After Bilbao, the exposition will travel to the COAM headquarters (Madrid), the University of Notre Dame, School of Architecture (USA) and the University of Miami, School of Architecture (USA).
